Trinity School Special Education Needs and Disability
Trinity’s Values of Community, Compassion, Endurance, Trust and Hope all come together within the mantra that ‘Every Teacher is a Teacher of SEND’. Every young person in our care is uniquely valuable, important and deserves the chance to flourish. Our aims for students are the same independent of whether they may have special educational needs and/or disabilities: we want them to have high aspirations and to reach their potential. At Trinity we aim to provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all students with high quality teaching differentiated to meet individual needs and abilities.
With a community of over 1700 members, each with their unique strengths and weaknesses we aspire to have the differences in our young people promote not only compassion and endurance in individuals but in supporting each other. We enable our young people to not only have their own hopes but to support the hopes of those who may have a greater struggle on their own journey.
Within Trinity, the majority of students receiving support will undertake mainstream lessons, with 1-1 and small group work used to boost those requiring additional support to reach their potential. However we know that even in a mainstream, inclusive community some young people require more support than others. The Home Group, within Learning Support, works with those young people requiring a much more bespoke educational journey. This may be due to being below age related expectations and/or require additional emotional/behavioural support as they transition into secondary school. This may be as an aid in adjusting to the faster pace and busy environment of secondary school, which can be overwhelming to some of our new young people.
Trinity School is a Strategic Resource for Hearing Impaired students. The school is resourced to ensure there is a good acoustic environment for hearing impaired students, which is suitable to meet their needs.
