Dear Parent/Carer,

As we have already lost a significant amount of time to COVID, I have been teaching online this week.

I realise that several students could not join TEAMS so have sent them the work via email.

As yet, I am missing evidence from a significant number of students.

I would be most grateful if you could ask your son/daughter to upload the evidence of the work completed or, if they have not yet been able to complete this work, to complete it ASAP and then upload the evidence.

It is unlikely that there will be time to go over this work if we are to be able to revise the work studied in Y10.

Many thanks in advance,

Dr. Barker

Lesson 1 w/c 14/12/20 – Air Pollution

Use the Powerpoinit that e went through on the TEAMS lesson to put the heading, textbook reference etc as usual on a new page.  Generate the notes for the topic by filling in the blanks in the cloze notes.  This will cover the source and consequences of each type of pollutant.

Use the slides that show how each pollutant gas is formed to write word equation for the formation of each pollutant gas.  Those students aiming for a grade 5 or higher should also attempt to write balanced symbol equations for the formation of each pollutant gas using the picture diagrams to help them visualise what the reactant and product formulae would be and the stoichiometric numbers (balancing numbers at the front of each formula).  I would advise that, as with each lesson, students make their revision materials for this section of work so that they have them ready for revision prior to the next mock / real exams.

Lesson 12 w/c 14/12/20 – Combustion Equations & Air Pollution Exam Questions

Use the guidance on the worksheet to write balanced symbol equations for the combustion questions in the worksheet.  If the question says that you have incomplete combustion or tells you incomplete combustion forms a gaseous product, assume that the product is carbon monoxide (CO) unless it tells you are forming carbon, or sometimes indicated by telling you it forms a solid product.

Complete the sample exam questions using the work we have completed and your revision materials when the question links to a part of the course we have already completed (I have deleted most of these but left a few bits in).

Once complete, again post the evidence to the correct lesson assignment in the assignment section of our class TEAMS site.
