Review – Purpose the 4th studio album by Justin Bieber
Justin Bieber is a widely recognised global superstar shooting to fame in 2010 after his song ‘Baby ft. Ludacris’ went viral online. He got his start on YouTube, a successful social media platform, when his mother posted videos, onto a channel name Kidrauhl, of him performing at a young age. His newest album announced his comeback into the music scene. It is, in my opinion, his best album to date.
Let’s start with the singles. Four singles have been released as of June 2016, not including his guest vocals on ‘Where are Ü now?’ with Skrillex and Diplo AKA Jack Ü. ‘What do you mean?’ was the first release and shot to the top of the charts. It starts with the now unmistakeable clock ticking and the rest of the song is very different to any of his other releases before. The song itself is very repetitive but not in annoying way and it is very catchy. I enjoy listening to it.
The second release ‘Sorry’ is a very modern sounding song. It appeals to everyone I know- that is very hard to do.
The third single ‘Love yourself’ is co-written by Ed Sheeran so it is very obviously about heartbreak. It sounds like it should be him apologising for being the wrong one in the relationship but is quite the opposite. It actually describes how horrible his past relationship was and how the partner was very narcissistic. The song is a very raw, acoustic track not seen at the top of the charts regularly or Justin Bieber’s style either; however it is a very commercially successful song.
The final single (as of June 2016) is ‘Company’ and is as well recognised or successful as the other singles but also hasn’t had as much time in the spotlight. It is an amazing song and I personally think it should have more recognition as it currently does.
Overall the album is his best yet and I very much enjoy listening to it. There’s something for most people. It shows his progress in the music world and how far he has come. Go check it out.
